What is Involved?
Volunteers who participate in the REST-KY study will share information about their sleep and health with our research team every six months for a two-year period. All study procedures can be completed at home or with a member of our research team in our University of Kentucky office. Volunteers may receive up to $685 for their time and effort.
Online Surveys
Surveys will ask about your background, sleep, and factors influencing aspects of your health.
Sleep and Health Tracking Via Smartphone App
Your daily experiences of sleep, stress, and health behaviors (e.g., substance use) will be tracked for short periods using a smartphone app. If you do not have a smartphone, the study will provide you with one.
Interviews With Our Team (Optional)
A small number of participants will be invited to complete an optional interview. These interviews can be on Zoom, over the phone, or in person. We’ll discuss issues related to your sleep and health.
Health Screenings
Measures of blood sugar and immune health will be collected via a few drops of blood from the tip of your finger. Feedback will be provided about your risk for type 2 diabetes and sleep apnea.
Sleep and Activity Tracking Via Fitbit®
You will wear a Fitbit® watch for short periods during the study to collect information about your sleep, heart rate, and physical activity. The Fitbit® will be yours to keep after the study.
Home Sleep Test (Optional)
You may be one of a small number of participants invited to use a home sleep test device. This device will monitor your breathing for one night while you sleep.
