Completing Your Home Sleep Test
The WatchPAT ONE is a small device that you will wear for one night on your wrist, finger, and chest that will collect important information about your sleep.

These instructions explain how to set up and use your WatchPAT ONE device. If you have any questions, please feel free to call us (859-562-0112) or email us (restky@uky.edu).

Make sure that you have completed all 14 days of daily surveys and Fitbit assessments BEFORE you complete your Home Sleep Test night.

Setting up your WatchPAT One Device
We recommend that you start by watching the brief instructional video for the WatchPat Device, which can be found HERE.

Before you get started with the sleep test, make note of the following:

It is recommended to wear the WatchPAT ONE device on your non-dominant hand (the hand you don't write with).

The finger probe can be worn on any finger, except for the thumb.

Before use, remove tight clothes, rings, watches, and other jewelry.

Remove nail polish and artificial nails from the test finger and make sure the fingernail is cut short.

Step One: Gather your device materials. These include:

Your phone (or loaner device you are using for the study)

When you are ready to prepare for bed the night of your test, make sure your phone is connected to WiFi, bluetooth is turned ON, and your phone is plugged in to the charger.

Step Two: Open the WatchPAT box. Inside you should see the watch with two cables attached to it and a single AAA battery.

Step Three: Download WatchPAT App from the Apple App Store (if you have an Apple phone or tablet) or from the Google Play Store (if you have an Android phone or tablet). If you are using a loaner device for the study, the app will already be installed on your device and you can proceed to Step Four below.

Step Four: Once the app is installed on your device, and you are ready to get in bed for the night of your test, tap on the icon for the app.
• On the welcome page, select “PREVIEW” and watch the instructional video before proceeding with set-up.
• Use the prompts on each page and the instructions below to properly calibrate and wear the device.

Step Five: You are now ready to start recording.
-
Press the "START" button then leave the phone plugged in to charge 5-10 feet away from you. You may now get in bed.

If you need to get up during the night, leave the device on.
-
DO NOT attempt to remove the device or stop recording.

Go to sleep as you normally would.
​
Step Six: When you wake up, open your phone and select "END RECORDING"

WAIT until the app has finished uploading your sleep data (see the progress bar at the bottom of your screen).

Once you see the "Thank You" screen, you may remove the device.

Recycling or disposing of your device after use
Option 1: If you would like to send your device to be recycled, please follow the link below to the device manufacturer. You will be instructed on how to prepare the device to be recycled and the company will send you a return label to ship the device free of charge.
Option 2: Simply remove the battery from the device and dispose of the device.
